Shaffer described the circumstances earlier this when, as it turns out (I just learned) Don Kirshner died:

“One day he called me, and ‘Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert’ was on the air at the time, and he told me, ‘I’m going on-camera to do the introductions on the show.’ Up until this point, it had been completely sober [voiceover] introductons of the acts, but he had decided to do them on-camera.

Truly a genius, Jodorowsky opened my eyes to the concept of film as a visual art form rather than another method of telling a story. In a way his films require a new word because no genre fits them… like Moving Paintings of Zen-Psychedelia or something.
